The LGV Bretagne-Pays de la Loire is a French high-speed line . It extends the LGV Atlantique west of Le Mans to Rennes and Nantes . The total costs are estimated at around € 3.4 billion. The project was implemented as part of a public-private partnership . Construction began on July 27, 2012, and the opening was celebrated on July 1, 2017.

Route

Route with the old route

The route branches off from the LGV Atlantique near Connerré and goes around Le Mans to the north. After 64 km the route splits. After a few kilometers, the south branch meets the route to Nantes at Sablé-sur-Sarthe ; a connecting curve between the branches of the new line enables journeys from Rennes to Angers. The main route initially continues in a north-west direction to Laval and then swings west to finally meet the old route at Cesson-Sévigné , just before Rennes . The total length of the LGV Bretagne-Pays de la Loire is about 214 km, of which 182 km are routes and 32 km are connecting routes with the old network. 200 engineering structures were created. The Le Mans bypass will also be used by freight traffic. There are also connections with the old line in Connerré and La Milesse . There are also connections with the old line to the east and west of Laval.

history

In 1992, a high-speed line from Le Mans to Rennes, as an extension of the LGV Atlantique, was included in the overall plan for the French high-speed lines. A public discussion took place from 1995 to 1996. The initial planning was carried out from 1996 to 2000. The preliminary planning of the route took place from 2002 to 2005. From 2006 to 2007 the studies to determine the public utility (Déclaration d'utilité publique) took place, which was established on October 26, 2007. On December 23, 2008, the procurement process began in which Bouygues , Eiffage and Vinci submitted an offer. In January 2011 it was announced that Eiffage Rail Express (ERE) would be awarded the contract for the project. On July 13, 2011, the RFF signed the financing agreement with the local authorities, and in the same month the contract between Eiffage and RFF was signed. The construction logistics center in Étrelles was opened on July 27, 2012 . The first test drives have been taking place since the end of 2016. In January 2017, a test train reached the maximum test speed of 352 kilometers per hour.

construction

The earthworks began at the end of 2012 and lasted until mid-2015. At the beginning of 2013, the first switch was laid near Sablé-sur-Sarthe. The line equipment (superstructure, overhead line, signaling) lasted from autumn 2014 to summer 2015.

Infrastructure

Like every new line in France, the line was electrified with 25 kV 50 Hz AC voltage . The signaling comes from Ansaldo STS and consists of TVM 300 and ETCS Level 2 . The connections with the old lines are equipped with level 1.

financing

Like the LGV Sud Europe Atlantique , this high-speed line is being implemented as part of a PPP. Following a public tender on January 18, 2011 , RFF selected the consortium led by the Eiffage Group as the builder and operator of the route. Eiffage will pre-finance about a third of the investment costs in exchange for a 25-year fixed lease from RFF, which will operate the route and collect fees for its use. In addition to Eiffage, Bouygues and Vinci also applied for the contract.

Current travel times in 2015

  • Paris <-> Rennes 2:04, in future 1:26 (driving time gain: 38 minutes)
  • Paris <-> Nantes 2:05, in future 1:53 (travel time gain: 15 minutes)
