The Low Density Lipoprotein Receptor-related Protein 1 (LRP1) is a cellular membrane receptor of the LDL receptor family.

CD91 is a dimer of an 85 kDa transmembrane fragment and a 515 kDa fragment that is non-covalently linked on the extracellular side. LRP1 is a multi-ligand receptor that was initially discovered as a transport receptor, but has now also been described as a signal receptor. Of the four domains of the protein, II and IV bind the majority of the ligands.
CD91 is mainly produced in the liver, brain and lungs. It serves as a receptor to initiate endocytosis of apoptotic cells. CD91 is essential for early embryonic development . It is also involved in regulating the composition of the cell membrane . It is involved in the absorption of chylomicron remnants, alpha-2-macroglobulin and complexes of plasminogen activators and their inhibitors from the blood plasma . It also binds complexes with serpins and heat shock proteins . CD91 is glycosylated and phosphorylated .
CD91 is also the cellular receptor for exotoxin A from Pseudomonas aeruginosa . CD91 is increasingly formed in monocytes of HIV- infected long-term non-progressors .
