history

Since the turn of the century, in the then independent town of Linden, young people met at the fountain square of the workers' settlement "Little Romania" to play rugby. The sport served as a physical counterbalance to the heavy factory work, and was played on the nearby Ohefeld. Over the years, the desire to found their own association grew, so that on October 6, 1903, seven Hanomag employees met in the "Zloch" restaurant on Göttinger Strasse to found the association.

After the club's founders had quickly completed all the necessary regulations, all they needed was a club name. But the men were repeatedly disturbed during their pauses in thinking about a suitable name by an alcoholic company at the next table. The company at the next table consisted of sailors who discussed which place was the most beautiful. In the end, the sailors agreed that it was "the most beautiful in Alexandria". This is how the club name, which has not changed to this day, came about: Lindener Sportverein Alexandria von 1903 eV

Shortly after the club was founded, the Alexers found a suitable site in the Lindener Ohe, which the members worked on to turn it into a handsome sports field. After the First World War, the club moved into a new sports field on Tönniesberg, on the HAWA site . The first successes came shortly afterwards. Against Viktoria Linden they won the North German Rugby Championship in 1921 and 1922. Both times LSV Alexandria lost the subsequent final of the German championship , in 1921 they lost to FC Neuenheim 0:11 and in 1922 SC Frankfurt 1880 0: 3.

The father of the success was Hermann Fromme, who led the club successfully for over 15 years. He was a great admirer of football, which was becoming more and more important, and since Alexandria did not agree on whether to open a football division, Hermann Fromme went to Hanover 96 and in 1949 became chairman of the North German Football Association's game committee . It was not until 1928 that LSV Alexandria founded its football division.

In the course of renewed industrial expansion, the Alexer lost their sports field. In 1932, HANOMAG took over the site in exchange with the city of Hanover and Alexandria received 4,000 Reichsmarks as "ridiculous compensation". When the National Socialists came to power, they ensured that small associations were merged into large associations with the Gleichschaltungsgesetz. This led to the LSV Alexandria von 1903 eV being integrated into such a large association. In 1938 one became part of the new large association DTSG from 1874 Hanover (later: SG 74 Hanover ). In order to at least keep the club name alive, a small group of old Alexers founded the bowling club "Alt-Alex", which stayed alive until the 1970s.

After the Second World War, some old Alexers got together to consider founding the club again. "Like a phoenix from the ashes" wrote the newspapers when the LSV Alexandria von 1903 eV in the restaurant of August Düvel, founding member from 1903, was re-established on August 29, 1950 at a meeting. Because they no longer had a sports field, the club used the shooting range as a venue. After every city festival, the members had to go to great lengths to clean up the area in order to keep the game going. Just in time for the 50th anniversary, the Alexers built a new place on the present site of the Siloah hospital . The festival, which was celebrated on the new facility for the 50th anniversary, is considered a high point in the life of the LSV. At that time the club had almost 700 members who played soccer in five men's teams and handball in two women's teams. There were also some youth and children's teams. Everything was based on progress.

A few years later, however, the association had to look for a new home again as the Siloam hospital was expanded. After a short transition period on the site of today's Swiss Life Hall , the sports field at the Lodemannbrücke, where the LSV is still based, was completed. The club currently has a football division in which two men's teams are active.
