La venda ( Spanish for "The Blindfold") is a Spanish pop song , which was composed and written by Adrià Salas and interpreted by Miki Núñez . With this song he won the show Operación Triunfo 2018: Gala OT a Eurovisión and therefore represented Spain at the Eurovision Song Contest 2019 in Tel Aviv .

background

The Spanish television broadcaster RTVE announced in September 2018 that it would once again use the Operación Triunfo format to find a suitable candidate for the Eurovision Song Contest. This procedure was already used in 2002, 2003, 2004 and 2018. At a special gala broadcast of the show, Miki Núñez was voted the winner of the preliminary round with 34% of the phone calls made. As a member of the so-called "Big Five", Spain is entitled to start directly in the final of the European competition.

Composition and text

The song is notated in 4/4 time and has a tempo of about 148 bpm . It has influences from Ska and a subspecies of Rumba (cf. Catalan Rumba ). The song has the typical offbeats for this genre . The author describes La venda as a powerful and energetic song with a catchy chorus. At the beginning two stanzas are sung, then the refrain, followed by two more stanzas and again the chorus. Before the last repetition of the chorus, the line “Lo que ere, lo que ere, ere, ere, e” is sung six times as a bridge. According to Salas, the text is about breaking down prejudices and developing one's own personality.

At the Eurovision Song Contest

The choreography was developed by Fokas Evangelinos. According to the Spanish Ministry of Finance, € 40,300 were due for this. Núñez appeared in the final of the Eurovision Song Contest as the last of 26 participants. He reached the 22nd place.

reception

Irving Wolther from Eurovision.de described La venda as "the catchiest song of the evening and maybe even the next ESC winner".

Music video

The music video for the song was released on March 6, 2019. It was shot in Barcelona , directed by Adrià Pujol and Fèlix Cortés.

publication

On January 18, 2019, the song was released on the album of the same name for the preliminary decision. When the music video was released, the single version was released, which contains slight changes to the original version.
