The façade of the lacquer forge

The paint wrought , even Huber forging and due to the facade of the residents of the surrounding area Eisenfresser called, is located in the cadastral Aichegg the market town Stallhofen in voitsberg district in western Styria . The origins of the forge go back to the 18th century. It was in operation as a farrier and wagon smithy until 1970.

Location

The former smithy is located directly on the L315 state road between Stallhofen and Södingberg , on the western bank of the Supperbach or Mühlbach and a little west of the Södingbach . It has the address Aichegg 62.

history

The current lacquer forge building dates back to the 18th century and was added to the south of an existing building that has been documented since 1130. The older building originally served as a tax collector's house and served as an office and residential building as well as a grain store. Today it is only used as a residential building. In July 1827 Jacob Obergmainer acquired the lacquer forge and used it as a tool forge and to manufacture anvils . In 1912 the forge was electrified. Later tenants turned the blacksmith's shop into a blacksmith's and cart forge. The last blacksmith was Johann Kraxner, who used the forge until 1970. Today the former forge serves as a boiler room and fuel store for the attached house.

description

The late Baroque paintworks building is slightly larger than the residential building to which it was attached, and the roof ridge with the two tall chimneys faces the same direction as that of the residential building. The curved gable side on the south side of the forge extends slightly beyond the roof and has a show facade. This facade is shaped like a large face, with two oval bull's eye in the roof area, the eyes, including and central arched niche nose and a large oval and a Fasche represent framed from plaster flat niche at the level of the ground floor of the mouth. In the central arched niche there used to be an angel figure with a sword and the inscription Measure and Weight come to court . The flat niche on the ground floor used to have five below and four above painted, matching, rectangular teeth, which were painted over by the owners when the building was renovated.

Due to the façade and the idea that only well-forged iron leaves the forge, the building is also known as the iron eater by the residents of the surrounding area .
