Ladislav Kuna (born April 3, 1947 in Hlohovec , † February 1, 2012 in Bratislava ) was a Czechoslovak soccer player and Slovak soccer coach . From 2006 until his death, Kuna was president of Spartak Trnava , where he spent almost his entire playing career.
Club career
Ladislav Kuna played in his youth for the Slovan club in his native Hlohovec. At the age of 16 he was discovered by the then coach of Spartak Trnava, Anton Malatinský . In 1964 Kuna made his debut in the 1st Czechoslovakian League and made 424 first division games for Trnava until 1980, in which he scored 86 goals. With his team, the midfielder won the Czechoslovak Championship in 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972 and 1973, and the Czechoslovak Cup in 1967, 1971 and 1975.
Kuna was considered a technically outstanding playmaker and the “brain of the team” that dominated Czechoslovak football in the late 1960s and early 1970s. In 1969 he was voted Czechoslovak Footballer of the Year . The long-range shots of the Slovaks, which decided many a game, were also feared.
From 1980 to 1983 he played for FC Admira / Wacker in the Austrian 1st division , then for a year at SV Eichgraben, where he was champion of the Lower Austrian regional league (Spielgemeinschaft SV Eichgraben / SV Gablitz) and then another year at VSE St. Pölten .
National team
In the Czechoslovak national team , Kuna made his debut at the age of 19 on May 18, 1966. The Czechoslovakia was defeated by the USSR 1: 2 in Prague . He took part in the 1970 World Cup, his last game was the 3-0 defeat of Czechoslovakia against England on October 30, 1974 at Wembley Stadium .
Trainer
In the 1984/85 season Kuna was still as a player assistant coach of Anton Malatinský at VSE St. Pölten. After returning to Czechoslovakia in 1985, he also worked as an assistant coach at Spartak Trnava, from 1988 to 1990 he was head coach there. In the early 1990s, Kuna returned to Austria and coached VfB Mödling in 1991/92 and the 1st Wiener Neustädter SC in the following season in 1992/93 . At the end of the 1990s, the former midfielder was a coach at the then Slovak second division club PFK Piešťany before coaching the DAC Dunajská Streda from 1999 to 2001 . In the summer of 2001 he went to ŽP Podbrezová, his last club as a coach was the MŠK Fomat Martin.
