Ladislav Novák

Ladislav Novák (born December 5, 1931 in Louny ; † March 21, 2011 in Ostředek , Czech Republic ) was a Czechoslovak football player and coach of Czech origin. He was considered a technically good left-back with a strong header.

Player career

Ladislav Novák started playing football at SK Louny , in 1950 he switched to Technomat Teplice . In 1952 the defender was committed by ATK Prague (from 1956 Dukla), for whom he played until 1966. With Dukla, Novák was eight times Czechoslovakian champion and two cup winners . He played 309 first division games. From 1966 to 1968 he played for LIAZ Jablonec and then ended his career.

Between 1952 and 1966 Novák played 75 times for the Czechoslovak national team and scored one goal. He was the team captain in 71 of these 75 games, a Czech record to this day. He took part in the World Cup in 1954 , 1958 and 1962 , as well as in the European Championship in 1960 .

Novák was in the world selection in 1968.

Coaching career

From 1968 to 1970 and again between 1972 and 1974 he worked as a trainer at LIAZ Jablonec . From April 1971 to July 1972 he coached the Czechoslovak national team in 15 games together with Ladislav Kačáni . He then coached KSC Lokeren until 1977 . His next stop was Royal Antwerp from 1977 to 1979 . In the 1979/80 season he coached Germinal Beerschot's team . In 1980 he returned to his former club Dukla Prague as a coach and won the championship in 1982 and the cup in 1981 and 1983. From 1986 to 1988 he worked as a trainer at KSK Beveren .
