Lagunillas is a town in the Santa Cruz Department in the South American Andean state of Bolivia .

Location in the vicinity

Lagunillas is the central location of the canton of Lagunillas in the municipality of Trigal in the province of Vallegrande . The village is located in the valley of the Río Cienega a few kilometers north of the town of Trigal on the Río Cienago and is embedded between north-south running mountain ridges that reach heights of up to 2,400 m.

Lagunillas is located in the transition area between the Andes mountain range of the Cordillera Oriental in the north and the Cordillera Central in the southwest, and the Bolivian lowlands in the east. The climate in the protected valley location is warm and balanced all year round, not as hot and humid as in the nearby lowlands, but also less mild than in the neighboring municipality of Vallegrande.

The mean average temperature of the region is 22 ° C (see Trigal climate diagram) and fluctuates only slightly between 19 ° C in July and 24 ° C from November to January. The annual precipitation is about 650 mm, with a dry season from May to September with monthly precipitation below 25 mm, and a wet season from December to February with 100 to 125 mm monthly precipitation.

Transport network

Lagunillas is located at a distance of 265 kilometers by road southwest of Santa Cruz , the capital of the department of the same name.

From Santa Cruz, the paved highway Ruta 7 leads west to Cochabamba and after 187 kilometers via Samaipata and La Angostura reaches the small town of Mataral . From there the Ruta 22 branches off in a southerly direction, reaches Lagunillas after 23 kilometers and continues via Trigal to the provincial capital Vallegrande .
