True glory

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lahr glory is a landscape in the community of Flammersfeld in the Rhineland-Palatinate district of Altenkirchen .

General

The landscape lies on the middle course of the Wied and bears its name after Lahr Castle , which today rises above the Wied as a ruin. The places Burglahr , Peterslahr , Eulenberg and Oberlahr belong to today's glory of Lahr , the population is around 1700, the area covers around 12 km².

history

The area was mentioned for the first time in the 13th century, was initially owned by Isenburg and then came to Kurköln , which built up its own domain (hence "glory") and secured it against Kurtrier and the counties of Wied and Sayn with the Lahr castle . The historical (electoral Cologne) "Lahr glory" only included the towns of Burglahr and Oberlahr. The places Peterslahr and Eulenberg, however, belonged to Kurtrier.

Due to the main decision of the Reichsdeputation , both the Electorate of Cologne and the Electorate of Trier came to the Duchy of Nassau in 1803 and finally to Prussia in 1815 .

Today the area is a popular destination. The Westerwald-Steig long-distance hiking trail leads on its 14th stage near Peterslahr through the Lahr glory.
