The Verbandsgemeinde Flammersfeld was an administrative unit in the legal form of a regional body in the district of Altenkirchen (Westerwald) in Rhineland-Palatinate . The association community consisted of 26 independent local communities , the administrative seat was in the eponymous community Flammersfeld . The Verbandsgemeinde emerged from the former Flammersfeld office in 1968 as part of the first regional reform in Rhineland-Palatinate . On January 1, 2020, the merger with the Altenkirchen community to form the Altenkirchen-Flammersfeld community took place .

Association municipal council
Due to the merger of the Verbandsgemeinden Altenkirchen (Westerwald) and Flammersfeld on January 1, 2020, the local elections on May 26, 2019 were already reorganized (see: Result ). The term of office of the previous community councils was extended by state law to December 31, 2019. The Flammersfeld municipal council, which was still in office for the entire 2019 calendar year, consisted of 28 voluntary council members who were elected in a personalized proportional representation in the local elections on May 25, 2014 , and the full-time mayor as chairman.

mayor
Ottmar Fuchs (independent) became mayor of the Flammersfeld community on January 1, 2015. In the direct election on May 25, 2014, he was originally elected for eight years with a share of the vote of 60.94%. His term of office ended prematurely on December 31, 2019 due to the merger of the municipalities of Altenkirchen and Flammersfeld by state law. At the same time, Fuchs was put into temporary retirement.
The first directly elected mayor was Josef Zolk (CDU) from 1999 to 2014.

In state elections , the municipalities belonging to the Flammersfeld community belonged to constituency 02-Altenkirchen , in federal elections to constituency 198-Neuwied .
