Laila Ali (born December 30, 1977 in Miami Beach , Florida ) is a former American boxer .

Career

Laila Ali is the daughter of Muhammad Ali and his third wife Veronica Porché. In early 1999, she surprised the boxing world with the decision to follow in her father's footsteps and earn a living as a professional boxer. On October 8, 1999, Ali won her professional debut against April Fowler by knocking out in the first round. On June 8, 2001, Ali and the 40-year-old Jackie Frazier-Lyde , daughter of Joe Frazier, met, in the ring opposite. For the first time in the history of American pay-TV, a women's boxing match was broadcast on prime time, announced as "Ali / Frazier IV", based on the three legendary fights of the fathers of the two boxers. Ali won the eight-round fight on points, but did not return to the fight against Shirvelle Williams until about a year later .

On August 17, 2002 Ali won the world title in the IBA version after two rounds against Suzzette Schneiders and added the WIBA and IWBF titles to this victory on November 9 of the same year when she defeated Valerie Mahfood after eight rounds. On December 17, 2005 she won in the context of the world championship match of Nikolai Walujew and John Ruiz in her first appearance in Germany against the Swedish Åsa Sandell , on November 11, 2006 in New York's Madison Square Garden against Shelley Burton .

In February 2007, Ali defeated Gwendolyn O'Neil in their last fight so far with a knockout in the first round.

In October 2019, Ali took part as panda in the second season of the US offshoot of The Masked Singer and was the third out of 16 participants.

Life

Ali and her husband, the football player Curtis Conway, have been parents to a son since August 2008, and they have had a daughter since April 2011.
