Laila Friis-Salling (* 11. April 1985 ) is a Greenlandic , often internationally for the Greenland mainland Denmark takeoff, freestyle skier in the discipline halfpipe .

Life

Laila Friis-Salling is the daughter of the billionaire Jens Kristian Friis Salling (* 1949) and the politician Augusta Salling (* 1954). She studied psychology in Denmark and lives in Aalborg . In 2018 she took part in the 15th season of Vild med dans , the Danish version of Let's Dance , where she reached seventh place together with her dance partner Morten Kjeldgaard . She has been in a relationship with the Danish actor Mads Madsen (* 1992) since 2019 .

Career

Laila Friis-Salling competed in her first international race in mid-December 2014 as part of the FIS races in Copper Mountain, USA, and was 17th among 19 starters. A few weeks later, she finished sixth in her first top spot in a competition in Seven Springs Resort. Ten place, but with only seven starters. With that she had achieved enough FIS points to compete in the North American racing series Nor-Am Cup . Here she contested her first race in Mammoth Mountain in early February 2015 and was the 15th penultimate. Three days later, she finished 12th out of 14 starters. At the end of the month, the first competition in the Freestyle Skiing World Cup followed . In Park City , she finished 14th of 19 starters, but did not qualify for the final run. In March, the second race in the World Cup was followed by the first World Cup race in Europe. In Tignes , the Greenlander was 18 of 19 starters. With 31 points she was 18th in the Halfpipe World Cup and 105th in the overall freestyle ranking of all disciplines. The following season 2015/16 should be Friis-Sallings most successful in the World Cup. With 63 points she was 14th overall in the halfpipe and 86th across all disciplines. In the first race of the season in Cardrona Alpine Resort , New Zealand , she again missed the final of the eight best in 10th place, but still achieved the first of her two top ten results in a total of 16 races in the World Cup.

The first international championship for Friis-Salling was the Freestyle Skiing World Championships 2017 in the Spanish Sierra Nevada . She reached the 20th place out of 25 starters and left the German former junior world champion Sabrina Cakmakli behind. At the end of 2017, she achieved a top ten placement in the World Cup in Secret Garden in China , finishing tenth. The highlight of his career was the 2018 Winter Olympics , in which Denmark started in 23rd and penultimate place. The World Cup race in Tignes after the Games was her last international appearance; Friis-Salling ended her career with a 17th place.
