Laima Liucija Andrikienė (born January 1, 1958 in Druskininkai , Lithuanian SSR ) is a Lithuanian politician and has been a member of the European Parliament since 2004 as a member of the European People's Party .

Academic career

Andrikienė studied economics and mathematics at Vilnius University . In 1980 she received her university degree , followed by her doctorate in economics in 1986 and from 2002 to 2004 she was Associate Professor at the Chair of Political Science at the Lithuanian Law University, as well as Head of the Institute for Politics and Administration of the European Union and Dean of the Faculty of Public Administration. Furthermore, it was from 1988 to 1989 Fellow at the University of Manchester , and in 1996 fellow at the Georgetown University in Washington, DC was Andrikienė from the 2007 Kingston University the honorary doctorate awarded.

From 1980 to 1983, Andrikienė worked as an engineer in the computer center of the Lithuanian Institute of Agricultural Research. She then became a research assistant and later a senior research assistant at the institute (1983 to 1989). before becoming assistant to the Lithuanian Deputy Prime Minister between 1989 and 1990.

Political career

Party affiliation

Andrikienė was active in the Lithuanian independence movement Sąjūdis . In 1993 she was one of the founders of the Patriotic Union , of which she was a board member until 1998. In 1999 she founded the Fatherland People's Party and was its chairman until 2001. She then became a member of the Union of the Right and finally returned to the Patriotic Union in 2003. Andrikienė has been a member of the Party Council of the Patriotic Union since 2006.

Political offices

Andrikienė was a member of the Lithuanian Supreme Council and a signatory to the Act to Restore Lithuania's Independence. From 1992 to 2000 she was a member of the Lithuanian Parliament . During this time she was Minister for Industry and Trade in 1996 and Minister for European Affairs from 1996 to 1998 . From 1998 to 2000, Andrikienė was chairman of the Lithuanian delegation to the Baltic Assembly and chairman of the Presidium of the Baltic Assembly. She has been a member of the European Parliament since 2004.

Andrikienė has been a member of the Board of Directors of the Vilnius Jewish Institute since 2005
