Lajos Cseterki

Lajos Cseterki (born October 29, 1921 in Nagyborszó , Sălaj district , today: Romania ; † April 22, 1983 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian politician of the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party MSZMP (Magyar Szocialista Munkáspárt) , who was among other things secretary of the Central Committee (ZK) of the MSZMP for culture and most recently from 1967 to 1978 secretary of the collective state presidium.

Life

Cseterki, the son of a railway worker, attended school in Dej and then the teachers' seminars in Aiud and Cluj . He then became a teacher in his native Nagyborszó in 1942, but was drafted into military service as early as 1943 during the Second World War . In 1944 he deserted to join the Red Army and then attended an Antifa school , where he was promoted by the seminar leader. In July 1944 he joined the Hungarian Communist Party MKP (Magyar Kommunista Párt) as a member. In 1947 he returned to Hungary and was first the private secretary of the Deputy Speaker of Parliament, István Kossa . He then became a lecturer at the school of the trade union federation SZOT (Szakszervezetek Országos Tanácsa) , of which he became head in 1949. In 1950 he moved to the party college of the Party of Hungarian Working People MDP (Magyar Dolgozók Pártja) , the merger of the Social Democratic Party of Hungary MSZDP (Magyarországi Szociáldemokrata Párt) with the MKP on June 15, 1948.

Thereupon Cserteki took over the post as general secretary of the teachers' union in July 1951 and was secretary of the trade union federation SZOT from March 1953 until the popular uprising in October 1956. In November 1956 he became secretary in the MSZMP committee in Fejér County and worked there until October 6, 1961. On November 16, 1958 he was also elected as a candidate on the joint list of the Hungarian Independent Popular Front MFN (Magyar Függetlenségi Népfront) and the Patriotic Popular Front HNF (Hazafias Népfront) as a member of the Hungarian Parliament (Országgyűlés) , which he was elected until his death on April 22, 1983. On December 5, 1959, he was elected to the 7th Party Congress of the MSZMP as a member of the Central Committee (ZK), of which he was a member until his death on April 22, 1983. Between October 6, 1961 and December 27, 1963, he served as First Secretary of the Party Committee in Borsod-Abaúj-Zemplén County . On November 24, 1962 he was elected to the Politburo candidate at the 8th Party Congress and held this post until the IX. Party congress of the MSZMP on December 3, 1966. He also held the post of Central Committee Secretary for Culture from December 27, 1963 to April 1967.

Most recently, Cseterki succeeded Károly Kiss as secretary of the collective state presidium (Népköztársaság Elnöki Tanácsa) in April 1967 and held this office until he was replaced by Imre Katona in April 1978. In 1977 he became an honorary citizen of Miskolc . After his death he was buried in the Kerepesi temető ( Kerepesi temető ) in Budapest.
