Lajos Sătmăreanu , also Ludovic Sătmăreanu , actually Lajos Szatmári , (born February 21, 1944 in Nagyszalonta , Hungary ) is a former Romanian football player and current coach of Hungarian origin. He played a total of 306 games in the highest Romanian soccer league, Divizia A , and took part in the 1970 World Cup.

Career

Lajos Sătmăreanu began his career at CSM Crișana Oradea not far from his hometown Salonta on the border with Hungary. On March 17, 1963, he came against his future club Steaua Bucharest his first appearance in the Divizia A . Since this should remain his only one for Crişana, he moved to Divizia B to Flamura Roşie Oradea in 1963 , but moved on to league rivals AS Armata Târgu Mureş after just one season .

On August 13, 1965 Sătmăreanu of Steaua Bucharest, one of the leading Romanian clubs in Divizia A, was committed. There he was used by coach Ilie Savu for the first time as a right defender and immediately became a regular in this position. With Steaua he won a league title and five cup wins before joining FC Bihor Oradea in 1975 . Already in the winter break 1975/76 he returned to Bucharest - but this time to Progresul , who played in Divizia B at the time, but made promotion at the end of the season. After the immediate relegation Sătmăreanu ended his active career.

He then became a trainer and coordinator in the youth department of Steaua Bucharest until he was dismissed by George Becali on February 23, 2011 together with seven other trainers for financial reasons. In between, Sătmăreanu had coached FC Bihor Oradea for a short time and had been assistant coach of various Romanian youth national teams from 1991 to 1997. With these he had been able to qualify for the U-16 European Football Championship in 1991 and the U-18 European Football Championship in 1993 .

After his release from Steaua, Sătmăreanu first worked in the private soccer school "Mati Sport" of his former pupil Vasile Matincă before he became a match observer for the Romanian Football Association .

In the summer of 2011 he took over the position of head coach in Liga III at Argeşul Mihăileşti , where he replaced the former international Viorel Turcu as coach.

National team

Sătmăreanu played a total of 44 games for the Romanian national football team and scored one goal. He made his debut on January 4, 1967 against Uruguay . He took part in the Soccer World Cup in Mexico in 1970 and played all three games.

successes

  • World Cup participant: 1970
  • Romanian champion: 1968
  • Romanian cup winners: 1966, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1971

Awards

On March 25, 2008, Sătmăreanu was awarded the Order of Merit "Meritul sportiv" III by the Romanian President Traian Băsescu for performance in the national team. Class excellent. He is an Honored Master of Sports.

Others

Lajos Sătmăreanu is not related to Alexander Szatmári , who also played in the Romanian national team and was under contract with Dinamo Bucharest , among others . Vasile Sere, the sports reporter on whom the Romanization of the two player names is due, also chose the name Sătmăreanu II for Alexander Szatmári to distinguish him from Lajos.
