Lajos Szűcs (born August 8, 1973 in Budapest ) is a former Hungarian football goalkeeper .
Athletic career
Szűcs began his career as a professional football player at Újpest Budapest . As a regular in the Nemzeti Bajnokság , one of the guarantees was that his club played in the top division and qualified regularly for the European Cup. During the winter break of the 1997/98 season, he followed an offer from the German club 1. FC Kaiserslautern , which had been promoted to the Bundesliga the previous summer . At the Palatinate first division team, he was supposed to fight for the regular place between the posts with Andreas Reinke as a replacement for Petr Kouba , who was injured for a long time and who was also suspended for doping . Only when this was canceled due to an injury, he was able to replace him and helped to win the championship title in three Bundesliga games.
After another goalkeeper, Uwe Gospodarek , had been committed to 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Szűcs returned to Hungary on loan and was hired by Ferencváros Budapest . In the summer of 2002, the club signed him for good. At his new club, he developed into a national player and made three international appearances by 2005. From 2005 to 2015 he played for Lombard Pápa . In 2009 he rose with the club to the Nemzeti Bajnokság and was a regular goalkeeper there until relegation in 2015 . He then moved to Dunaújváros FC in the second division before joining third division Rákosmenti KSK in early 2016. There he took over the coaching position in 2016.
