Lakeway is a city in Travis County in the US state of Texas in the United States .

The city is located in southeast Texas, on Highway 620 and has a total area of 15.7 km 2 , of which 0.7 km 2 is water.

According to the 2000 census, 8,002 people lived here in 3,124 households and 2,496 families. The population density was 532.7 people per km 2 . The racial the population was composed of 96.39% White, 0.80% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.86% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, and 0.86% other ethnic groups. About 0.96% were mixed race and 4.21% of the population were Hispanic or Latino of any race.
Of the 3,124 households, 34.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them. 71.1% of these were married couples living together. 6.9% were single mothers and 20.1% were non-families. 16.5% of all households were single households and there were people living in 6.8% who were 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 2.84 people.
