Lama Shang ( Tib. Bla ma Zhang ) and Shang Yudragpa Tsöndrü Dragpa ( Zhang g.yu brag pa brtson 'grus grags pa * 1123 at Lhasa ; † 1193 ) was the founder of Tshelpa Kagyu -Schule ( tib . Tshal pa bka 'brgyud pa ), one of the four great branches of the Kagyu school direction ( Barom , Karma- , Phagdru and Tshelpa Kagyu) of Tibetan Buddhism . He is the founder of the Tshelpa (Yanggön, founded 1175) and Tshel Gungthang (founded 1187) monasteries near Lhasa in the later 12th century .

Lama Shang comes from the village of Tshelpadru near Lhasa. His original name is Dharma Drag, he left his family at the age of 26 and became a monk, from then on he called himself Tsondru Drag , later he was generally referred to as Tshelpa Lama Shang .

Lama Shang began to study the scriptures at the age of 13, his teachers included the 'Great Doctor of Dagpo' (Gampopa) , Gompa Tshälthrim Nyingpo , (Chinese) Aokaba and Phagdru Dorje Gyelpo , later he spent a few years in Densa Thil monastery founded by Phagdru Dorje Gyelpo , found the support of the Gar clan and began planning the Tshelpa monastery.

Together with the Phagdru Kagyü founder Dorje Gyelpo and the Gelug founder Tsongkhapa , he is counted among the so-called "Three Treasures of Tibet".
