Lambert Gedicke

Lambert Gedicke (also: Gedike * 6. January 1683 in Gardelegen ; † 21st February 1736 in Berlin ) was a German Protestant theologian and hymns -Dichter. He came from the Altmark and was the son of superintendent Christian Gedike von Gardelegen. After studying with August Hermann Francke in Halle (Saale) , Gedicke first became a teacher at the Francke Orphanage , later a field preacher and, in 1717, a Prussian field provost in Berlin. As such, he was at the same time the inspector of all Prussian garrisons and field preachers.

Gedicke was married to Anna Barbara Ohm von Januschowsky, her grandchildren, the Prussian school reformer Friedrich Gedike and the director of the Leipzig Citizens' School Ludwig Gedike , were well-known Prussian educators.

The hymn How God leads me, so I will go ( EKG 302) comes from his pen . He also gained fame as the editor of the first Prussian military hymnbook.
