Lancer is a village in the Canadian province of Saskatchewan . It is within the Miry Creek No. 229 . The Great Sandhills Nature Park is southwest of the village .

Townscape

Lancer has a post office in the center , which was founded and opened in 1913. The United Church , which is also in the center of the village, and the Lancer Catholic Church , which is on the eastern outskirts, both belong to Catholicism.

The Lancer Centennial Museum in the town center provides information about the history and development of the village as well as agriculture in the area. Various exhibits such as earlier field devices and machines, objects from cultures of the First Nations and also objects from the time of the Second World War are on display .

In the center of Lancer is also the world's largest "Chokecherry sculpture", which was erected as a symbol for the annual Chokecherry Festival on Thanksgiving weekend in October.

Infrastructure and economy

Lancer is a holding and turning point of the railway Empress Subdivision leading to the railway company Great Sandhills Railway heard. Highway 32 , which connects the communities of Leader in the northwest and Swift Current in the southeast, runs in the village .

The main export is predominantly wheat , which is grown extensively in the region, as well as the extraction of natural gas and oil .

Demographics

According to the 2001 census, the population was around 75. According to a census from 2006, the population fell by 13.5% to 65. In 2011, the place had 61 inhabitants; this meant a decrease of approx. 6.2%. Between 2011 and 2016 the number rose by 13.1% from 61 to 69 people.
