Landbell AG für Rückhol-Systeme is a service provider that undertakes take- back and recycling obligations for companies . It supports companies in fulfilling their extended producer responsibility (EPR) and other product and packaging-related requirements. The company operates worldwide and has take-back systems. Landbell's headquarters are in Mainz .

history

Landbell AG was founded in September 1995 as a local waste disposal company. The aim was to support companies in the obligation to take back and recycle their sales packaging. This came into force in 1991 with the introduction of the Packaging Ordinance. From 1998 Landbell developed its own recycling system in cooperation with the Lahn-Dill district in a pilot project . In August 2003, Landbell was approved as a dual system in the state of Hesse via a notice of assessment . Landbell thus ended the monopoly that had existed until then in the return and disposal of sales packaging. Up to this point in time, Duales System Deutschland GmbH (DSD) with the Green Dot was unrivaled in Germany . In August 2006 Landbell was approved nationwide as a dual system. The internationalization of the business began in 2009, with Landbell also supporting companies abroad with their disposal obligations in Germany.

In 2013 the company founded the Green Alley Award, the first European award for start-ups in the circular economy. In 2014 the European Recycling Platform (ERP) was taken over and the Landbell Group was founded. ERP was launched in 2002 by Hewlett Packard , Electrolux , Sony and Procter & Gamble in response to the introduction of the European Union's directive on waste electrical and electronic equipment . Landbell thus expanded its range of services to 15 countries and old devices and batteries, and became the only pan-European take-back system that serves all three material flows (packaging, old devices and batteries). Landbell operates the take-back systems (English: Producer Responsibility Organization) as an independent, private service provider for manufacturers. Landbell organizes the entire process from collection through logistics to recycling and thus acts as an interface between manufacturers and the waste disposal industry.

In the following years, other companies were added, including a. H2 Compliance as experts and consultants for manufacturers on all aspects of their conformity with global chemicals legislation, such as REACH, CLP, Biocide, RoHS and with obligations arising from the extended manufacturer responsibility (2016). Landbell Group also holds shares in numerous other companies, e. B. at TerraCycle GmbH in the DACH region. A strategic partnership with DHL has existed since 2017 . The aim is to offer customers solutions for supply chain management and extended manufacturer responsibility from a single source.

In 2019, Landbell joined the Prevent waste and circular economy alliance. The alliance was set up by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development to promote the expansion of a functioning waste and recycling management system in emerging and developing countries. It includes over 30 organizations from business, science , civil society and public institutions.

In addition, Landbell AG is a member of German industry associations such as the Working Group Packaging & Environment, the Federal Association of German Waste Management, Water and Raw Materials Management , the Federal Association of Secondary Raw Materials and Waste Management and the Association of Municipal Companies . With its pan-European experience in product waste streams (packaging, old devices and batteries), Landbell is also involved in the policy-making of EU institutions through its subsidiary European Recycling Platform as a stakeholder registered in the EU Transparency Register .

Product areas

As an internationally represented company, Landbell Group offers solutions for manufacturers and retailers to support them in complying with their obligations arising from global environmental and chemical legislation. This is done u. a. through the operation of take-back systems for packaging, electrical and electronic equipment or old batteries as well as through global services relating to extended manufacturer responsibility and chemicals law.

Take-back solutions

Companies are legally obliged to organize and finance the proper disposal of the products and packaging they sell in Europe and other countries. The legislation on Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) includes various waste streams and regulates the handling of old electrical and electronic devices, batteries, and sales and transport packaging. Local regulations can differ significantly depending on the country. To comply with these EPR regulations, Landbell and its subsidiary European Recycling Platform offer various take-back solutions. In addition to the collection, sorting and recycling of products and packaging, this also includes monitoring the relevant legislation. Landbell has 35 approved take-back systems.

consultation

Legal requirements from environmental and chemical legislation are complex and change regularly. In addition, more and more countries around the world are following the European regulatory approach and are introducing similar or even stricter legal provisions. This increases the regulatory challenges on a global level. Landbell offers companies services with regard to compliance solutions, in particular support for project management services with regard to compliance obligations or services that are required for "end-of-life management" and circular supply chains . In addition, Landbell supports the compliant handling of chemicals related to REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorization and Restriction of Chemicals), ROHS, CLP or GHS.

software

Landbell uses its own software solutions for the management of take-back activities, material flows and environmental compliance reporting. In this way, in addition to automated reporting, it is possible to control all process steps, e.g. B. Placing orders, collection and final recycling of valuable materials. Software for the management of chemical regulations supports portfolio and supply chain management or the determination of compliance obligations. The software solutions are also used by various companies outside the group.
