The Landesfischereiverband Bayern eV is the umbrella organization for Bavarian fishermen and a recognized nature conservation association . Founded in 1855 as the Munich Fisherman's Club, the original aim was not to develop angling, but to promote artificial fish farming to secure the food supply for the population.

Today the LFV represents anglers and professional fishermen. Its full members are 7 largely independent district associations with over 875 fishing clubs and around 131,000 members and over 400 pond owners as well as river and lake fishermen. As a nature conservation association recognized in accordance with the Federal Nature Conservation Act, it combines efforts to improve the ecology of Bavarian waters with the promotion of fishing . A special focus here is the importance of angling for people's quality of life.

Protection of waters and species

The LFV is actively committed to water and species protection . In 2001, for example, the association gradually acquired water rights on the Mitternacher Ohe and then demolished existing small hydropower plants . This restored the patency of the river for fish.

The vocational training to become a fish farmer takes place in 114 companies. It lasts 3 years. The state fishing association has 7 direct members, the district fishing associations. The district associations are, in turn, the collective organization for the associations of the respective government district.

The LFV is divided into the following departments:

  • Castingsport: This department includes all casting athletes of the full and indirect members. A total of around 800 fishermen take part in casting events each year.
