There are state equality laws in Germany for two areas: equality between women and men , including the promotion of women , and equality for disabled people .

Equality between women and men

At the federal level , the Federal Equal Opportunities Act (BGleiG) of the red-green Schröder government has specified as a goal in Section 1 : "According to this law, women are promoted in order to reduce existing disadvantages."

However, the BGleiG is not a framework law for the 16  federal states , it only applies to federal agencies. Every federal state has had its own equality law since the 1990s (as of 2017):

  1. Bavaria : Bavarian law on equality between women and men of May 24, 1996 (Bavarian Equal Opportunities Act: BayGlG)
  2. Baden-Württemberg : Law to Realize Equal Opportunities for Women and Men in the Public Service of the State of Baden-Württemberg (Equal Opportunities Act - OpportunitiesG) of October 11, 2005
  3. Berlin : State Equal Opportunities Act of Berlin (LGG) of September 6, 2002. Last amended by the law of November 18, 2010 (GVBl. P. 502), in force since November 28, 2010.
  4. Brandenburg : Law on equality between women and men in the public service in the state of Brandenburg (State Equal Opportunities Act - LGG) of July 4, 1994
  5. Bremen : Law on equality between women and men in the public service of the State of Bremen (State Equality Act) November 29, 1990
  6. Hamburg : Hamburg Equal Opportunities Act - HmbGleiG, as of January 1, 2015
  7. Hessen : Hessian law on equality between women and men and on the elimination of discrimination against women in public administration (Hessian Equal Rights Act HGlG) of December 21, 1993, current status: January 1, 2016

Equality for people with disabilities

The country's equality laws of individual states were created to the contents of the law on equality of disabled people or Disability Discrimination Act to implement (BGG) at country level.

The state equality laws differ in part from the Disability Equality Act (BGG) and among themselves.

Bavaria

In Bavaria , the Bavarian Law on Equality, Integration and Participation of People with Disabilities (Bavarian Disability Equality Act - BayBGG) of July 9, 2003, GVBl. P. 419, which was last amended (as of December 28, 2019) by Section 1 (359) of the ordinance of March 26, 2019 (GVBl. P. 98).

Baden-Württemberg

In Baden-Württemberg , the state law on equality for people with disabilities (State Disability Equality Act - L-BGG) of December 17, 2014 (Gbl. 2014, 819), which was last (as of December 28, 2019) by law of December 18, 2014, applies December 2018 (Journal of Laws p. 1560).

Berlin

In Berlin , the law on equal rights for people with and without disabilities (State Equal Rights Act - LGBG) in the version dated September 28, 2006 (GVBl. P. 957) BRV 840-2, which was last updated (as of December 28, 2019), currently applies. was changed by Art. 2 Para. 2 RL2016 / 2102-UmsetzG of March 4th, 2019 (GVBl. p. 210).

Brandenburg

In Brandenburg , the law on equality for disabled people in the state of Brandenburg (Brandenburgisches Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz - BbgBGG) of March 20, 2003 (GVBl.I / 03, [No. 04], p.42) was in effect until 2003. This ceased to apply through § 18 of the State of Brandenburg's Law on Equal Opportunities for People with Disabilities (Brandenburgisches Behindertengleichstellungsgesetz - BbgBGG) of February 11, 2013 (GVBl.I / 13, [No. 05]), which has been in force in Brandenburg since then.
