Around 65 musicians from all parts of the state meet for two work phases per year and for smaller projects. During the first few days, the respective concert program is worked out with lecturers in register rehearsals, then the conductor gives it the musical fine-tuning for the concerts.

The orchestra consists of musicians who are not older than 25 years. They are selected in an audition that takes place twice a year at the Mainz University of Music . At least three years of orchestral experience is recommended in order to pass the audition and to be able to master works of category 5 for wind orchestra .

organization

The Landesjugendblasorchester Rheinland-Pfalz is a funding measure of the Ministry for Education, Science, Further Education and Culture . Since 2005, it has also received funding from the revenue from the Lotto Rhineland-Palatinate luck spiral .

The organization of the orchestra consists of a project advisory board of the regional music council, the organizational director and the orchestra board, which consists of volunteer members of the orchestra. The work phases and concerts are planned and organized in cooperation with the artistic director.

history

The former State Music Director of the State Music Association of Rhineland-Palatinate , Hans-Albert Schwarz , founded the State Youth Brass Orchestra Rhineland-Palatinate in 1991. He held the office of both organizational and artistic director. The endeavor to make the musical genre of symphonic brass music, which was still relatively unknown at the time, accessible not only to young musicians, but also to a broad audience, led to the founding of the Rhineland-Palatinate Youth Wind Orchestra after a "summer course for symphonic wind orchestra".

The first official appearance took place on the occasion of the opening ceremony of the State Music Festival in Wittlich in 1991 . Since then, the orchestra has seen an upswing in the level of the concert programs and in the number of orchestra members and concert-goers. In 1993 the orchestra undertook its first international tour to Scotland , where it gave concerts in Glasgow and Edinburgh , among others .

After the sudden death of Hans-Albert Schwarz in 1997, the Japanese conductor Kunihiro Ochi could be won, who knew how to further improve the quality of the orchestra. Corresponding recordings for radio and television and 24 CD recordings document this development. The highlight and central project in 2001 was the concert tour to the “Summer Band Festival” on Jeju Island in South Korea .

In 2002, the organizational structure was comprehensively redesigned in order to guarantee optimal framework conditions for the musical work of the orchestra: the State Music Council provided the orchestra with Günter Jacoby . Since the beginning of 2005, the orchestra has been supervised by the deputy managing director of the State Music Council, Walter Schumacher-Löffler , as organizational director. This guarantees a direct connection to the LMR and the responsible ministries.

In 2013, Kunihiro Ochi left the orchestra to pursue new tasks. Stefan Barth was won as the new artistic director for 2014. Stefan Grefig, who was appointed conductor of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Police Orchestra in 2014 , was won over as musical director for 2015. In autumn 2015 he was appointed the new chief conductor of the Rhineland-Palatinate State Youth Brass Orchestra through a presidium resolution of the State Music Council.

Guest Conductor

The orchestra is led by guest conductors at regular intervals . These were among others:

Support association

During the Easter work phase 2016 in Annweiler am Trifels , members of the orchestra founded a sponsoring association with the task of supporting the Rhineland-Palatinate Youth Brass Orchestra in its work through financial or material means.
