State Music Academy NRW

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Landesmusikakademie NRW (LMA) is a central state institution for musical education, training and further education as well as a conference venue for musicians for musical amateurs and young musicians in Nienborg . In accordance with the statutes, it takes up “current trends in the musical life of North Rhine-Westphalia and combines its music-educational objectives with creative artistic tasks.” The LMA is also open to guests outside the state of North Rhine-Westphalia. The facility has existed since August 18, 1989.

History and conception

"Long House"

The original domicile was built in 1983 in the "Long House", a former Burgmann's house from 1554 on the Nienborg Ring Castle (1198). This was followed by the construction of two guest houses in the immediate vicinity and a cafeteria with "Haus Wilpers" from the 16th century. After another guest house was rented on the outskirts of the community in 1995, state funds made it possible to purchase and convert a town house on the castle grounds into another guest house. It has been available for high demand since 2003. Located within walking distance of this historical ensemble, the music center is the core area of the academy facility. The functionally designed new building contains the artistic-pedagogical, technical and administrative facilities. This includes seminar rooms, practice cells, percussion rooms, a recording studio, a music library and numerous musical instruments of various types and sizes. The LMA now has seven buildings and offers 144 beds. A medieval vaulted cellar of the castle room belongs to the complex.

The ongoing financing of the facility comes from state funds, sponsoring and its own economic income. According to the academy, the annual capacity is around 21,000 participant days, 9,500 guests and over 260 events (2008).

The LMA is supported by the association Landesmusikakademie NRW "Burg Nienborg" . Its members include the Landesmusikrat NRW e. V., the district of Borken and the municipality of Heek. The board includes the two state parliament members Thomas Sternberg (CDU) and Peter Weckmann (SPD) as assessors and the district administrator of the Borken district , Kai Zwicker (CDU), as 1st deputy chairman.

On May 15 and 16, 2009, the LMA celebrated the 20th anniversary of its opening by the then Minister of Education, Hans Schwier (SPD), with a ceremony - combined with an "open day".
