The State Center for Civic Education Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania ( LpB MV ) in Schwerin , Jägerweg 2, is a non-partisan state institution for political education in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania within the scope of the Ministry for Education, Science and Culture Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .

History and organization

The LpB MV was founded in 1991, until 2007 it was assigned to the State Chancellery of the State of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania , since then it has been part of the Ministry of Education, Science and Culture Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
The LpB MV is an institution of the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania without legal capacity .

Self-reliance

Like the other state centers for political education, the LpB MV is independent and not organizationally subordinate to the federal center for political education (bpb). It maintains its own profile, with which it supplements the offer of the federal center in a country-specific manner.

Board of Trustees

The board of trustees ensures the party-political balance in the fulfillment of the tasks of the LpB MV and decides on the main focuses of the political education work in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, gives suggestions and takes a position on reports and plans. Tasks and projects

Documentation center for the victims of the dictatorships

The LpB MV is the sponsor of the documentation center opened in 2001 at Schwerin Demmlerplatz for the victims of dictatorships in Germany. With a three-part permanent exhibition and a wide range of educational offerings, the documentation center conveys the eventful, sometimes dismaying past of the building since 1916, and above all shows the political abuse of law and criminal justice by state institutions As part of the advanced training for teachers, using a holistic method, teachers are provided with the tools they need to cope with the difficult topic of “dealing with the dictatorships in Germany”. The aim is to use the teachers to strengthen and motivate young people who are in the process of developing their own identity and personality to commit themselves to moral courage and tolerance.

Democracy on the move

The political education bus “Democracy on the Move” has been on the road in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania since May 2008. It is the mobile offer of the LpB MV and the state commissioner for the Stasi files MV in rural areas. The target groups are primarily schoolchildren and the general public.
The “rolling branch” of the LpB MV provides extensive educational and advisory services as well as a diverse range of materials and publications. In the mornings, the bus and the team visit schools and organize project hours there on the subjects of “Democracy and Politics” and “GDR History”. In the afternoon, all other citizens have the opportunity to talk to the employees about politics and history on the marketplaces, to find out about the advice offered by the state commissioner for the Stasi files MV or to apply for access to the Stasi files.

The DemocracyLaden Anklam is intended to serve interested and committed citizens of the Western Pomerania region as a contact point for the development of ideas and projects for democratic participation. In addition, it enables interested associations, institutions and citizens to network with actors and potential partners for joint project work. At the same time, the LpB MV, in cooperation with the Association Democratic East Western Pomerania, which has been active in the region since 2008, and with the support of the Federal Agency for Civic Education (bpb), wants the DemokratieLaden as an information and event location for discussions, exhibitions, readings and film events establish and much more.
In the DemokratieLaden , publications from the state and federal agency for political education are made available free of charge for all interested citizens, but also for schools and other multipliers.
