Landhotel Falkner
The Landhotel Falkner , Austria's smallest 4-star hotel with twelve rooms, is located in Marsbach , municipality of Hofkirchen im Mühlkreis , Upper Austria . It sits enthroned on a rocky ridge high above the Danube between Passau and Linz in the immediate vicinity of the Schlögener Schlinge in the Natura 2000 protected area Donauleiten . In 2009 the hotel was recognized by the Chamber of Commerce for 100 years of tradition and innovation. The house is owned by the Falkner family in the fifth generation and is run as a family business.
history
The house used to be a hunter's apartment and “ Försterhäusl ” of Marsbach Castle , which was first mentioned in 1074.
A “front tower” is mentioned in a sales deed from 1269. Some remains of the lining wall are still preserved in the garden of house number 2. In Urbar "home of Hofamtmannes, built in the days of a Vogeltenhaus": from 1668 it is said of this building.
In 1893, Franz and Rosa Falkner leased the castle tavern.
In 1924 the Knight von Krenn leased the house to Franz and Rosa Falkner, who then ran it as an inn. The beer was fetched from the Niklas brewery in Wesenufer and stored in the castle's ice cellars .
Franz and Rosa Falkner bought the house in 1936. The castle tavern was also acquired with the surrounding area . Originally, the Marsbach rule belonged to the Schlosstaverne, which was located in the basement of the main building at the entrance corner. The purchase price of 5,000 schillings for the liquor license and 12,000 schillings for the Jägerhäusl and the reason were a very considerable amount for the time.
Shortly after the house was bought, the expansion of two guest rooms for summer vacation began . Franz Falkner was a hunter and tenant of the castle hunt, Rosa Falkner managed the inn through difficult economic times.
At the end of World War II , Maximilian and Anna Falkner took over the inn. The Mühlviertel was occupied by the Soviets until 1955 . Despite these adversities, work continued on expanding the house.
In 1982 the current owners Maximilian and Simone Falkner took over the house and expanded it into a 4-star hotel. The hotel is a member of the “Schlosshotels und Herrenhäuser” cooperation.
