Landsat 7 is launched on 15 April 1999 Earth observation satellite, the US air and space agency NASA . The satellite is the seventh in the line of Landsat satellites. It is equipped with the multispectral sensor ETM + , the resolution of which has been severely limited since 2003 due to a mechanical problem.

Landsat 7 is part of the Earth Observing System (EOS), a long-term research program of NASA that encompasses several missions .

Most of the earth's surface at NASA World Wind and online map portals such as B. Google Maps (Earth), MSN Maps or Yahoo Maps is represented by processed Landsat 7 satellite images.

Orbit

The satellite moves in a polar , sun-synchronous earth orbit (SSE). A characteristic of this orbit is that the satellite passes one point on Earth at the same time every day. Therefore, such earth orbits are often used for meteorological satellites and earth observation satellites .
