State election in the People's State of Hesse in 1927
The state election in the People's State of Hesse in 1927 was the fourth in the People's State of Hesse to become the State Parliament of Hesse . It took place on November 13, 1927 and resulted in confirmation by the governing coalition.
initial situation
In the People's State of Hesse, Ulrich II's cabinet had ruled as a Weimar coalition since the first election in 1919 . After the attempt to form a bourgeois coalition of the center had failed after the state elections in the People's State of Hesse in 1924 , the opposition tried to dissolve the state parliament prematurely with the referendum on the dissolution of the third Hessian state parliament . After this failed, there were regular elections in 1927.
The election was marked by significant personnel changes. The long-time leader of the center, Otto von Brentano di Tremezzo , died on July 21, 1927, which resulted in the formation of the Ulrich III cabinet . Both Finance Minister Konrad Henrich (DDP) and Carl Ulrich (SPD), who was 75 years old, had announced that they would leave office.

consequences
The formation of a government proved difficult. Although the previous coalition had obtained a mathematical majority, the formation of a coalition SPD / DDP / DVP without the center, which would have had 36 out of 70 seats in the state parliament, was discussed. The conflict between the SPD and the center concerned the occupation of the interior ministry. This coalition could not be realized, however, and so the Weimar coalition and the Adelung cabinet were reissued . Bernhard Adelung was elected head of government by the state parliament on February 14, 1928. The center had to do without the Ministry of the Interior, the center deputy August Nuss was appointed the country's representative to the government. Wilhelm Leuschner (SPD) became Minister of the Interior .
VRP and KPD were able to expand their share of the votes in the state parliament. In Offenbach am Main , the KPD even became the strongest party.
