The Stellaria longifolia ( Stellaria longifolia ), also Langblättrige Sternmiere called, is a plant of the genus chickweed ( Stellaria ) within the family of Caryophyllaceae (Caryophyllaceae). It is common in the northern hemisphere .

description

The long-leaf chickweed is a perennial herbaceous plant and reaches heights of 10 to 25 centimeters. The delicate, fragile, often climbing, square stem is rough in the upper area. The opposite leaves are up to 3 centimeters long, linear-lanceolate and rough on the edge.

The flowering period extends from May to August. The bracts are dry-skinned. The hermaphroditic flowers are radial symmetry and five-fold with a double flower envelope . The five sepals are indistinctly annoying when fresh. The sepals are about as long as the petals. The five free, 3 to 5 millimeters long petals are almost completely divided. There are three styluses.

The capsule fruit is slightly longer than the sepals.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 26.

Occurrence

The long-leaf chickweed is circumpolar in the northern hemisphere , in its Central European locations it is a relic of the Ice Age . It is very rare in Central Europe . It grows in moist pine forests of the eastern central Alps (westwards to around the Engadine ) at altitudes between 100 and 1800 meters, but it also occurs locally in the Alpine foothills , in the Bavarian Forest and east of it, in Silesia and then again in Poland .

The long-leaf chickweed thrives best on acidic, nutrient-poor , raw humus -rich and somewhat boggy forest soils , but it also grows on fresh ledges and on overgrown tree stumps . It mostly occurs in societies of the Piceetalia order, but is a national character of the Linnaeo-Piceion association.
