history

The history of the community goes back further than just the general view by Europeans, since before Europeans settled the area was already a settlement and hunting area of the First Nation .

There were originally several large farms on southwest Vancouver Island, established by the Hudson's Bay Company in the 1850s to support the ever-increasing population of their Fort Victoria trading post . The parish is named after Edward Langford, a member of the Pugets Sound Agricultural Company (a subsidiary of the Hudson's Bay Company). By around 1851 he was running a large farm here, the area of which would encompass large parts of what is now Langford and Colwood.

Over time, so many people lived in the settlement that a post office was opened here on July 1, 1911.

Demographics

The 2011 census showed that the settlement had a population of 29,228. The population of the settlement increased by 30.1% compared to the 2006 census, while the population in the province of British Columbia only increased by 7.0%.
