Metchosin is a community on the southern end of Vancouver Island in British Columbia , Canada . The municipality, which belongs to the Greater Victoria metropolitan area , is located in the Capital Regional District and borders directly on Juan-de-Fuca-Strasse . Within Greater Victoria, the parish, like Langford , Colwood , View Royal and Highlands , is counted among the West Shore municipalities and is the smallest of these parishes.
The parish is located approximately 14 miles south-southwest of Victoria and is surrounded by the parishes of Sooke , Colwood and Langford, as well as the District Capital H (also called Juan de Fuca Electoral Area ).
Metchosin is divided into several districts (neighborhoods):

- Rocky Point
- Wildwood Creek Estates
- William Head
Rocky Point is the southernmost point in western Canada.
history
The history of the community goes back further than just general observation by Europeans, as before Europeans settled the area was already a settlement and hunting area of the First Nation , mainly coastal Salish . In the entire coastal area there are heaps of mussel shells , which tell of a pre-European settlement and hunting history.
Demographics
The census in 2011 showed a population of 4,803 inhabitants for the settlement. The community's population increased by only 0.2% compared to the 2006 census, while the population in the province of British Columbia grew by 7.0%.
With 4,803 inhabitants, the parish is one of the smallest parishes in the Capital Regional District, only the parish of Highlands has fewer inhabitants.
politics
The granting of local self-government for the municipality took place on December 8, 1992 ( incorporated as District Municipality ).
Mayor of the city is John Ranns. Together with four other citizens he forms the council of the city (council).
economy
As in the neighboring parishes of Langford or Colwood, trade is one of the predominant branches of the economy, alongside accommodation and catering. Here, too, a large proportion of the employees work in public administration and health care. Many employees live in the city but work in the surrounding communities, particularly in Victoria.
traffic
Metchosin is on Highway 14 . Highway 14 crosses the community in the northern area.
The city does not have its own airport, but can only be reached via the airports of the surrounding communities, in particular via Victoria.
