Career
Youth / beginnings
Poffo was born the son of the Italian-American wrestler Angelo Poffo and Judy, a US-American Jew. He grew up in Downers Grove , Illinois and is the brother of "Macho Man" Randy Savage .
Lanny Poffo made his debut in 1972. He first appeared in various territories of the National Wrestling Alliance (NWA) and was allowed to win some titles there.
International Championship Wrestling / World Wrestling Federation
In the late 1970s / early 1980s he competed for his father in International Championship Wrestling (ICW), which at the time also belonged to the NWA. In the World Wrestling Federation he was used as a jobber until he played the manager of Curt Hennig and the Beverly Brothers as "The Genius" . He and Curt Hennig had a feud against Hulk Hogan and Brutus Beefcake . In this context he was allowed to defeat Hulk Hogan. He then appeared on the talk shows Live with Regis and Kathie Lee and The Jonathan Ross Show . After moving to World Championship Wrestling in 1995, where he was never used, however, he ended his active wrestling career.
Both as "Leaping" Lanny Poffo and as "The Genius" he wrote and quoted poems before the match. Lanny Poffo is still active as an independent wrestler today. In 2005 he appeared at a wrestle reunion show in Tampa , Florida , where he defeated "The Royal Stud" Adam Windsor .
After the wrestling career
Poffo has published several volumes of poetry and limericks , most of which deal with drug and alcohol addiction , which are primarily aimed at children and adolescents. Poffo is also an anti-smoker and has a book called Limericks from the Heart and Lungs! published on this topic. He now works as a debt advisor and motivational speaker .
In contrast to his brother Randy Savage, Poffo has a good relationship with World Wrestling Entertainment to this day . In 2007 he wrote a poem for the "Battle of the Billionaires" between Vince McMahon and Donald Trump at WrestleMania 23 .
