The asphalt tanker Lapresta is a special ship for the transport of liquid bitumen . It was built in 2015/16 at the Gebr. De Jonge shipyard in Kladovo (Serbia) for the shipping company Asphatrans Sàrl based in Luxembourg . Because of the width of 17.50 meters, the hull was towed by sea to Rotterdam to Shipyard Trico for further expansion. The name Lapresta refers to the La Presta asphalt mine in Switzerland. The ship was christened in Rotterdam on September 21, 2016. According to the shipping company, the Lapresta is the world's largest inland shipping asphalt tanker. The area of application is between the Total refineries in Vlissingen and Antwerp .

construction

The tanker is 135 m long, 17.50 m wide and has a draft of 4.70 m. The side height is 7.80 m. The fuselage is designed as a double hull with a bulbous bow .

The ten separate tanks, each with a capacity of 760 m³, are insulated and heatable in order to keep the cargo at a temperature between 160 and 200 degrees Celsius. It is heated with two Konutherm boilers with 750 and 1500 kW heating output, in which 37,000 liters of thermal oil are heated. There is one boiler in the rear and one in the front engine room.

All loading and unloading lines as well as the five loading and unloading pumps are insulated and, due to the large temperature differences, laid with expansion bends and compensators. Separate heating lines, in which hot thermal oil circulates, lead to all lines and valves. The entire line system is designed for a pressure of 20 bar.

The ship can hold 280 m³ in the foredeck, 2450 m³ amidships and 200 m³ aft of ballast water. The anchor point is 8.80 m with an empty ship and 7.80 m with ballast. The blind spot with the wheelhouse extended is 250 m in front of the bow. 100 m³ of diesel, 20 m³ of lubricating oil and 40 m³ of drinking water can be stored as operating materials. The wastewater is cleaned in the sewage treatment plant installed on board and pumped outboard.

flat

The apartment in the aft aisle above the engine room is built on two floors. In the lower deck, which is in the hull, there are four cabins, each with its own bathroom. There is also a separate room with washing machines and tumble dryers and a storage room. On this deck there are a main generator and two harbor generators, compressors and other ancillary equipment for ship operations. Above this apartment there are two large apartments in the deckhouse with a saloon, bedroom and bathroom for the ship's command and a spacious mess .

There are a total of two kitchens on board. These rooms can be reached both from the outside and directly via a staircase in the wheelhouse lift when the wheelhouse is up. The wheelhouse is equipped with all modern facilities for navigating the ship. All living rooms and the wheelhouse are air-conditioned.

drive

It is powered by two Caterpillar 3512 C diesel engines with 1118 kW each via Reintjes reversing gear on two fixed propellers with a diameter of 1.85 m, which run in nozzles. A triple rudder system is installed behind each of the propellers, which is driven by two independent hydraulic systems. Two Caterpillar C 18 diesel generators and two electrically powered Verhaar bow thrusters with control grate and 450 kW power are installed in the bow.
