Larry Ali Donald (born January 6, 1967 in Cincinnati ) is an American heavyweight boxer. He is trained by Collins Morgan and his manager is Carl King.

amateur

As an amateur, Donald won the Golden Gloves in 1989 and 1990 and the US super heavyweight championship in 1991. At the Goodwill Games in Seattle in 1990 , he finished second, at the 1991 Amateur World Cup in Sydney , he finished third.

In 1992 he took part in the Olympic Games in Barcelona for the USA , but lost to the later gold medalist Roberto Balado in the second round of the tournament . His record was 54-4.

Professional career

Donald began his professional career in 1993. In March 1994, he managed a points victory over the still undefeated Jeremy Williams.

He suffered his first defeat against ex-world champion Riddick Bowe in December 1994. Bowe hit Donald in the face at the press conference and impressed Donald so much that he boxed the whole fight very cautiously.

1997 and 1998 he won victories against Tyrell Biggs , Tim Witherspoon and Ross Puritty ; he had to accept a point defeat against the Canadian Olympian Kirk Johnson .

His only premature defeat he suffered in November 2002 against Vitali Klitschko , against whom he went KO after ten one-sided rounds .

His most important win came in 2004 against ex-world champion Evander Holyfield , who at this point was 42 years old and had long since passed the zenith of his career. Then Donald boxed a draw with Ray Austin .

On October 1, 2005 he lost in the World Cup elimination match of the WBA Association against Nikolai Valujew with 114: 114, 117: 112 and 114: 113 points. The point allocation was controversial.

After almost two years of inactivity, Larry Donald boxed in Moscow in June 2007 against the up-and-coming Alexander Powetkin and was clearly defeated by the former amateur world champion and Olympic champion over ten rounds on points.
