Negative is a glam rock band from Finland . It was founded in Tampere in 1997 . The band itself describes their style as emotional rock . The musicians see their musical role models u. a. with Guns N 'Roses and Aerosmith , which is reflected in both the sound and the demeanor of the band.

history

Negative was founded in 1997 in Tampere, Finland by singer Jonne Aaron (full name Jonne Aaron Liimatainen ) and drummer Janne Heimonen (Jay Slammer) . A few other school friends of the musicians also belonged to the band. The current line-up only developed over time, there were various changes. Gradually, Antti Aatamila ( Antti Anatomy , 2000), Lauri Markkula ( Larry Love , 2001) and Jukka Kristian Mikkonen ( Sir Christ , 2002, previously with Bloodpit ) joined them. The band, which at that time still had five members, signed their first record deal in 2002. The following year the band released their debut album, War of Love , which, like their first single The Moment of our Love , achieved gold status in Finland. In the same year keyboardist Janne Kokkonen (Nakki Snack) also joined the band.

In September 2004, the band released their second album Sweet & Deceitful . The first single from it, Frozen to Lose it All , went straight to number 1 on the Finnish charts. Negative has now also made its breakthrough in Germany. Her second album made it to number 55 in the German charts and the single The Moment of Our Love even made it to number 28. For the German release of The Moment of Our Love , a new video clip was also shot in which the keyboarder Snack also played can be seen who was not part of the first video because he only joined the band later. In 2005 the six Finns played their first festivals in Germany (e.g. Bochum Total and M'era Luna ) and in September they went on their own tour across Germany. In 2006 the band went on tour in Germany with their Finnish colleagues HIM and The Rasmus . The tour was very successful and sold out after a short time.

The album Anorectic was released in Finland on September 27th and in Germany on September 29th, 2006. Their first single from the album was called Planet of the Sun and was released on September 6th, 2006 in Finland. The second single, the song Sinner's Night / Misty Morning , was released in Finland on November 29, 2006. In 2007 they won the MTV Europe Music Awards in the category "Best Finnish Band".

On January 15, 2008, Negative announced that guitarist Sir Christ had separated from them. You have grown apart. "It's best for sir and for negatives," Jonne Aaron said in an interview. Sir Christ played for some time in his brother's band, but there, too, he got out again; he currently plays in a band called Black Jesus . On March 31, 2008, Negative introduced Tuomas "Gary" Keskinen (member of the band Technicolour) on their website, who accompanied them on tour as a live guitarist during the summer. A few weeks later, on May 7th, the fourth album Karma Killer was released in Finland , which was released in German-speaking countries on September 4th, 2008.

On January 26th, Negative's first live DVD, In the Eye of the Hurricane , was released in Finland . In addition to an almost two-hour concert recording of the performance at Pakkahuone in Tampere on December 8, 2006, a second DVD includes all of the band's music videos, interviews, photos and videos (both official and from fans) as well as the 1:44 hour documentary Around the world , in which negatives not only show pictures of their lives on tour, but also scenes from the band's first appearances, for example in youth centers.

From October 2008, Negative could be seen live with this album all over Europe on a club tour, but there were only five people on this tour. At the beginning of August 2008 singer Jonne Aaron announced on the band's homepage that Negative would do without a second guitarist in the future and as Quintet will perform.

Negative is not only known in Europe, but also in Japan, where she has already had many festival appearances. As part of her tour in autumn 2008, she played her first concert on American soil. Negative performed as the opening act for London After Midnight at the Circo Volador Club in Mexico City, Mexico on November 22, 2008 .

Her current studio album Neon was released on July 23, 2010 for the first time in Asia and Europe.

On May 16, 2011 Larry Love (Lauri Markkula) posted a video on his profile on Facebook and announced his exit from Negative. The fansite "negative-love.de" reported in an interview in the magazine Iltalehti that Negative was taking a break and published the dates of the solo tour of the singer Jonne Aaron in Finland. Further activities of the band have not become known since then. In addition, their website has not been accessible since then.
