Lars Schmidt Grael (born February 9, 1964 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian sailor .

successes

Lars Grael took part in the Olympic Games in the boat class Tornado four times . With Glenn Haynes , he finished seventh on his Olympic debut in Los Angeles in 1984 . Four years later he started with Clinio Freitas in Seoul and won the bronze medal with it. They scored 40.1 points, which put them in third place behind Jean-Yves Le Déroff and Nicolas Hénard from France and the New Zealanders Rex Sellers and Chris Timms . At the 1992 Olympic Games in Barcelona , Grael and Freitas finished eighth. He played his fourth game in Atlanta in 1996 with Kiko Pellicano , with whom he won another bronze medal. They finished the regatta with 43 points behind the Spanish and Australian boats in third place.

At world championships , Grael won the bronze medal in the Starboot boat class in Varberg with Ronald Seifert in 2009 , before winning the title in Buenos Aires with Samuel Gonçalves in 2015 . Two years later, Grael and Gonçalves secured the silver medal.

Several of Grael's family members sailed in international regattas. His uncles Axel and Erik Preben-Schmidt took part in the Olympic Games in 1968 and 1972, his brother Torben won five Olympic medals and was twice Olympic champion in the star boat. Like his niece Martine, his nephew Marco took part in the 2016 Olympic Games, in which the latter became Olympic champion in the 49er dinghy .
