Martine Soffiatti Grael (born February 12, 1991 in Rio de Janeiro ) is a Brazilian sailor .

successes

Martine Grael took part in the 2016 Olympic Games in her hometown Rio de Janeiro with Kahena Kunze in the boat class 49erFX . In the final medal race , the two Brazilians were one of four boats that made the four top placements among themselves. With first place, Grael and Kunze secured the gold medal in front of Alex Maloney and Molly Meech as well as Jena Hansen and Katja Salskov-Iversen and thus became Olympic champions . At world championships she became world champion with Kahena Kunze in Santander in 2014 and also took second place with her in 2013 in Marseille , 2015 in Buenos Aires , 2017 in Porto and 2019 in Auckland . With Kunze she won the silver medal at the Pan American Games in the boat class 49erFX 2015 in Toronto and the gold medal in Lima in 2019 .

In 2014 the World Sailing Association named Grael and Kunze as World Sailors of the Year . As a crew member, Grael participated in the Volvo Ocean Race in 2017 .

Several of Grael's family members sailed in international regattas. Her great uncle Axel and Erik Preben-Schmidt took part in the Olympic Games in 1968 and 1972, and her uncle Lars won two Olympic bronze medals in 1988 and 1996. Her father Torben won five Olympic medals and was there twice in the boat class Star Olympic champion. Like Martine Grael, her brother Marco took part in the 2016 Olympic Games.
