Lars Tietje (born July 23, 1967 in Celle ) is a German theater director .

Life

Tietje, grew up in Duderstadt , studied at the University of Music and Theater Hamburg and at the University of Hamburg music (major in piano with Gudrun Jalass and Marian Migdal ), Protestant theology , conducting with Klauspeter Seibel , accompaniment with Irving Beckmann and cultural management , etc. a. with Peter Ruzicka , Hermann Rauhe , Joachim Benclowitz, Manfred Lahnstein .

From 1996 to 2001 he worked in the artistic management office and the opera management of the Cologne Opera under artistic director Günter Krämer and the opera directors Irmgard Röschnar (until 1998), Karen Stone (1998–2000) and Anette Berg (from 2000) a. a. as head of the artistic management office and production manager . From 2001 to 2004 he was artistic operations director and chief dispatcher as well as deputy director in artistic matters at the Staatstheater Kassel under director Christoph Nix .

From 2004 to 2016 he was artistic director and managing director of Theater Nordhausen / Loh-Orchester Sondershausen GmbH . Under his leadership, the GmbH achieved the highest number of visitors since it was founded in 1991, up to over 105,000 per season. In 2006, the then State Minister of Culture, Jens Göbel (CDU), planned to reduce the subsidies from the State of Thuringia for the Nordhausen Theater so that no production ensemble could have been financed. This cut was largely averted. Lars Tietje anchored the theater in town and country and ensured with increasing and continuous artistic quality that the theater has become an indispensable part of the cultural landscape of Central Germany.

In 2006, Lars Tietje founded the Sondershausen Castle Festival, which has been held annually by Theater Nordhausen / Loh-Orchester Sondershausen GmbH, initially in the inner courtyard of Sondershausen Castle and today in front of the castle. In the summer festival weeks, operas, operettas and musicals, musical children's theater and special festive concerts are performed. Building on the music and music education tradition of the city of Sondershausen, the performances in the first few years were mainly filled with singing students and young opera graduates. These are accompanied by the opera choir of the Nordhausen Theater and the Loh Orchestra Sondershausen.

Lars Tietje is a co-founder of the Thuringian Opera Studio, originally a cooperation between the Liszt School of Music Weimar , the Nordhausen Theater, the Erfurt Theater and the Weimar National Theater. Singing students receive main subject lessons at the university, take part in - mostly small and medium-sized - roles in music theater productions at the theaters and thereby gain practical experience and thus an easier career entry. Today the Altenburg-Gera Theater (formerly Thuringia Theater and Philharmonic Orchestra) is involved as a cooperation partner.

Lars Tietje has been General Director and Managing Director of Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater GmbH , based in Schwerin , since the 2016/2017 season . When he took office, the former Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater Schwerin gGmbH (sponsored by the State Capital Schwerin) merged with the former Zweckverband Mecklenburgisches Landestheater Parchim (sponsored by the Ludwigslust-Parchim district and the city of Parchim) to form today's Mecklenburgisches Staatstheater GmbH. As the main shareholder, the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania took over 74.9% of the theater. The Mecklenburg State Theater is the first and so far only State Theater in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

The merger is to be implemented in the GmbH and the considerable consolidation work associated with the state's theater reform must be provided. Aesthetically, the theater with its six branches (music theater, drama, ballet, Low German stage, children's and youth theater and concert) offers a great variety. Great opera and entertaining music theater, in drama classics such as modern materials and new formats are on the program. The biggest crowd pullers in every season are the family play during Advent (“Christmas Tales”), the spring musical and the summer Schwerin Castle Festival.

In January 2018, Lars Tietje came under fire because he forbade "unauthorized political statements" in the context of the staged gala program in the run-up to the annual theater ball of the Mecklenburg State Theater.

On July 3, 2019, Tietje announced in a press release that he would not extend his contract beyond the term (summer 2021). His justification is that he received insufficient support "for the change processes initiated by the sponsors with regard to the consolidation requirements and artistic development". At the beginning of the 2021/22 season, Lars Tietje will be the new director of the Bremerhaven City Theater.

Personal

Tietje is married and has three sons. His brother is the conductor and arranger Kai Tietje .
