Lasse Antero Lehtinen (born January 23, 1947 in Kotka ) is a Finnish politician of the Social Democratic Party of Finland and was a member of the European Parliament from 2004 to 2009 . He also works as a journalist , writer and television producer.

biography

Lasse Lehtinen was born in Kotka in 1947. From 1957 to 1965 he went to school in Kuopio . He completed his studies in philosophy at Stockholm University , where he graduated in 1977 with a Master of Arts . In 2002 he completed his habilitation in Oulu and received a doctorate in philosophy .

Lehtinen has been working as a journalist since 1962. He worked for Yhtyneet Kuvalehdet from 1966 to 1969 and then worked for Yleisradio as editor for another three years . Since 1993 he has also worked as a producer and writer for television. From 1999 to 2005 he was presenter of the program Haluatko miljonääriksi? In a total of 212 episodes . , the Finnish edition of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? .

In 1968 Lehtinen became a member of the Kuopio City Council, a position he held until 1980. From 1972 to 1983 he was a member of the Finnish Parliament , after which he worked as a diplomat until 1990 , first in the Finnish Foreign Ministry and then in the Finnish Embassy in London . In 1990 he supported Martti Ahtisaari in his presidential election as a campaign designer.

In 2004 Lehtinen was elected to the European Parliament, where he is Vice-Chair of the Delegation for Relations with Canada. He was a member of the Socialist Group in the European Parliament .

Lehtinen has already written 30 books. He has been married since 1976 and has one grown son.
