Last Chance to Reason is an American progressive metal band from Portland , Maine that was formed in 2005. Since its inception, the band has played with groups such as Born of Osiris , Genghis Tron , Periphery , Dååth , Through the Eyes of the Dead and Unearth .

history

The band was formed in 2005. The first tours and releases followed in the following years, before the group signed a contract with Prosthetic Records and released the album Level 2 on this label , which was produced by Jamie King ( Between the Buried and Me , The Human Abstract ). A video game for the album was also developed by Tom Vine and Francis Coulombe , in which the player can experience the album as a video game. The game was inspired by classics like R-Type , Contra and Super Metroid . In February 2011 the band went on tour through Canada , before playing with Atheist in March and at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival in April . Further appearances followed for the rest of the year. The album Level 3 followed in August 2013 via Prosthetic Records .

style

According to Prosthetic Records, the Level 2 album was heavily influenced by progressive rock bands like King Crimson and Yes , composers like Steve Reich, and progressive metal bands like Opeth , Dream Theater and Cynic . The album was about the relationship between humans and technology in a tron-like world. The texts were told from the perspective of an artificial intelligence.

According to Timo Beisel from metalnews.de, Level 3 was comparable to the works of Opeth, Cynic, King Crimson, Tool and Meshuggah . The use of staccato - riffing and the use of double bass was characteristic. The vocals varied from growling to clear vocals. In addition, influences from jazz were audible. Electronic sounds and sound effects reminiscent of video games were occasionally used in the songs. The texts were again shaped by computer terms.
