Hugo Daniel Garcia Gouveia , known under the stage name Lata Gouveia (born February 19, 1975 in Lisbon ) is a Portuguese singer-songwriter and guitarist of the Red Dirt style .

Life

He grew up in Luxembourg , where his father worked for the European Union. At the age of 17 he went to London , played music in pubs and was a member of various bands. From 1993 to 1999 he studied economics at the University of London and then politics at the London Metropolitan University . He completed both courses with a bachelor's degree . In 2001 he founded Desert Fish Productions . From 2002 to 2006 he had a band Lata Dog , with whom he released an album. In 2003 he wrote the song Três desafios for the soundtrack of the film Tudo Isto É Fado by director Luís Galvão Teles .

In 2007 he moved to Oklahoma at the invitation of Rocky Frisco, who had played as a pianist with JJ Cale . There he came into contact with many folk musicians, including Tom Skinner and Randy Crouch , and directed the documentary Red Dirt: Songs from the Dust in 2009 .

Since 2010 he has been living in Luxembourg again. In 2011 he played in the Rockhal in the opening act for Ayọ . In 2012 he played the opening act for Charlie Winston , also in the Rockhal . He wrote the score for the documentary Terra mia terra nostra (2012) by director Donato Rotunno . In 2013 he won the Purple Idols band competition and played as opening act for BAP at the Rock um Knuedler festival . In July 2013 he played as the opening act for Alan Parsons . In 2017 he appeared again at Rock um Knuedler . In June 2018 he played in the opening act for Sting .

His band consists of Daniela Krüger (bass), Paul Porcelli (guitar) and Jeff Herr (drums). In the music video of his single Radio Night actress occurs Sascha Ley on.
