Laubenberg was the name of a former Swabian noble family that was divided into three lines. The family's ancestral castle was the Alt-Laubenberg near Grünenbach in the Westallgäu .

history

The family was first mentioned in a document on April 13, 1263 with Heinrich von Loubinberch, who was staying in Wilten with the Duke of Swabia Konradin . Earlier sources speak of Herrmann von Laubenberg, who was enfeoffed with Laubenberg Castle by Charlemagne in 782 .

Before the year 1268 the family split into the lines Laubenberg to Altlaubenberg , Laubenberg to Stein and Laubenberg to Rauhlaubenberg and Rauchlaubenberg . The Altlaubenberg line had fiefs from St. Gallen and from 1390 from Austria . Laubenberg-Stein from the Diocese of Augsburg and Rauhlaubenberg from the Count of Montfort . In addition to the possessions in the Allgäu , the Laubenbergers also owned possessions in Switzerland and Württemberg .

In 1442 Conrad von Laubenberg zu Altlaubenberg died childless, with that the first line of the Altlaubenberg family ended. Ownership went to the other two lines. Jos von Laubenberg zu Rauhlaubenberg moved with Margareta von Weiler to Altlaubenberg. His son Hans founded the second line of the Altlaubenberger, Agnes von Ryschach, who came from the first Altlaubenberger line. In 1465 he received Altlaubenberg and Rauhlaubenberg, his uncle Kaspar Laubenberg-Stein. In 1472 he and Wilhelm von Weiler were promoted to eight for the murder of Conrad Inderbünd , from which he was released in the same year. In 1495 Hans and his wife donated an anniversary to Grünenbach for the poor. This foundation existed until 1857.

From 1535, the Altlaubenberg / Rauhlaubenberg and Laubenberg-Stein lines alternated with the patronage rights in Stein .

In 1559 the Laubenberg moved to Rauhlaubenberg into the Rauhenzell Castle. Rauhlaubenberg Castle burned down in 1588 and was no longer rebuilt. The von Rauhlaubenberg called themselves from then on Laubenberg zu Rauhenzell.

In 1639 Johann Christoph von Laubenberg died, his wife Margaretha Späth von Zwiefalten ruled in the name of their sons. With the early death of the sons Johann Joachim and Johann Theodor in 1647, the Altlaubenberg / Rauchlaubenberg line became extinct in the male line. The fiefdoms of Altlaubenberg and Rauhlaubenberg were awarded in the same year to Johann Anderas Pappus von und zu Tratzberg, who from then on was called Pappus von Tratzberg zu Laubenberg, Laubenbergstein and Rauchenzell.

The Altlaubenberg family crypt is located in the parish church of St. Ottmar in Grünenbach. The von Stein family in the Marienkapelle in Stein in Allgäu.
