The mountain is located in the northwest of the Chiemgau Alps in the area of ​​the municipality of Aschau im Chiemgau in the district of Rosenheim about 4.5 kilometers south of Frasdorf and about 2.7 kilometers southwest of the Aschau district of Hohenaschau . The Laubensteinalm is located southwest of the summit at an altitude of 1,300  m above sea level. NHN .

The closest mountain, which is higher than the Laubenstein, is the Zellerhorn, about 400 meters to the southeast, at an altitude of 1397  m above sea level. NHN .

The Laubenstein is a knoll with a flat, grassy peak. The slopes of the mountain are forested. The mountain has a 1350  m above sea level. The summit cross is about 50 meters east of the highest point in order to be better visible from below.

The Laubenstein is part of a karst area with several caves. The keyhole cave is located on its western flank.

Ascent

An ascent leads from Frasdorf through the valley of the Ebnater Achen over the Frasdorfer Hütte to the Laubenstein. Another ascent leads from Hohenaschau over the Hofalm to the Laubenstein.
