Laufen is a district of the town of Sulzburg in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in Baden-Württemberg with around 800 inhabitants.

geography

The village is located in the Markgräflerland , about 25 kilometers southwest of Freiburg im Breisgau and about two kilometers west of Sulzburg. Laufen and the hamlet of St. Ilgen , about a kilometer to the west , which shared his rulership history, are surrounded by vineyards. The area around Laufen belongs to the foothills of the Black Forest . The area sloping west to the Rhine is drained by the Hohlenbach and the Hahnengraben .

The beggar path , a historic hiking trail, runs through Laufen .

history

The wine-growing town of Laufen is said to have been mentioned for the first time in 793. The first secure documentary mention can be found in 820 in a St. Gallen document: "In pago Prisigauhinse ad Laufin et in eadem marcha".

For several decades running and St. Ilgen by the quality viticulture and started by Helene von-Zeppelin are irises (Iris) Horse Owning nationally known. On January 1, 1974, Laufen was incorporated into Sulzburg with St. Ilgen.

Attractions

  • The historic center of Laufen has been protected as a complete complex since May 14, 2009 in accordance with Section 19 of the Monument Protection Act. It is one of the best preserved places in the former margraviate of Baden and, from a historical perspective, has the character of an overall complex. The Office for Monument Preservation has published the historical site analysis Sulzburg-Laufen created by Markus Numberger in 2009 .
  • The Evangelical Church of St. Johannis in Laufen was built between 1852 and 1856 according to plans by the Baden building director Heinrich Hübsch . Under the tower in front of the southern facade is the entrance, through which one enters a north-facing church hall with a flat ceiling, three-sided galleries and a central pulpit above the altar. The painting from 1900 was restored in 1993/94.
