St. Ilgen is a district of the town of Sulzburg in the Breisgau-Hochschwarzwald district in Baden-Württemberg .

The small wine-growing village , a rural hamlet with about 90 inhabitants, is located about one kilometer west of Laufen in the Markgräflerland , about 25 kilometers southwest of Freiburg .

history

The place is first mentioned as a village and community in 1323 under the name of St. Gylien , but the church was mentioned as early as 1089. It belonged to the Bailiwick of Laufen, whose fate he shared. Under the rule of Badenweiler , both villages came to the Margraviate of Baden in 1503 and therefore became Protestant. Before the Thirty Years War , Laufen and St. Ilgen are said to have had a total of 338 inhabitants, of which only 10 adults and 3 children remained in the end. This was followed by immigration mainly from Switzerland. On January 1, 1974, the municipality of Laufen was incorporated into the city of Sulzburg with the formation of a local council.

In the village there was a Meierhof of the abbots of St. Trudpert , who had owned goods there and in Laufen since 1144. A patrician house can be traced back to the Malteser family from Heitersheim , who managed their property in Laufen and Britzingen from here. Two houses have beautiful door frames from the 18th century.
