Laura Bucher (born August 5, 1984 ) is a Swiss politician ( SP ). She has been a councilor of the Canton of St. Gallen since 2020 and heads the Department of the Interior.

Live and act

Bucher graduated from the canton school in Heerbrugg in 2003 . From 2003 to 2008 she studied law at the University of Zurich , and in 2006 and 2007 also at the La Sapienza University in Rome. In 2008 she graduated with the Licentiate (lic. Iur.) From 2013, it was with a thesis on the legal status of young doctorate . Bucher has been admitted to the bar of the Canton of St. Gallen since 2014.

She ran for 2004 and 2008 unsuccessfully on the social democratic list in the Rheintal constituency. In November 2010, after the resignation of Ursula Graf Frei , she was declared elected by the Cantonal Council, and since then she has represented the SP Rheintal in the cantonal parliament. Bucher is also the president of her local party in St. Margrethen and sits on the board of her district party . From 2018 until her election to the government, she was co-group president of the SP-GRÜNE parliamentary group in the cantonal council. On April 19, 2020, she prevailed against her rival Michael Götte ( SVP ) in the second round of the government council election , and was elected together with Beat Tinner ( FDP ).

Bucher lives in St. Margrethen. She is married and has two children.
