Laurel is a city in Yellowstone County and is located in the state of Montana in the United States .
geography
The city is located approximately 20 kilometers southwest of Billings , 120 kilometers northeast of Yellowstone National Park and on the Yellowstone River and the Interstate 90 highway.
history
In 1806, Captain William Clark , a member of the famous Lewis and Clark Expedition , camped at the mouth of the Clarks Fork in the Yellowstone River near the present-day town of Laurel. This place was called first as a community, "Carlton" and later changed to "Laurel", based on occurring there laurel shrubs (English: Mountain-laurel shrub).
