Laurence Boisson de Chazournes

Laurence Boisson de Chazournes (* 1958 ) is a French lawyer and professor at the University of Geneva .

Education and professional career

Laurence Boisson de Chazournes completed his studies in political science in June 1979 at the University of Lyon II . The following year she obtained a diploma in sociology and the maîtrise en droit at the University of Lyon III . She was admitted to the bar in October 1980. Between 1983 and 1990 she worked as a research assistant at the University of Geneva. After graduate studies in 1987, she was in 1991 at the Graduate Institute of International and Development Studies in Geneva, with a thesis in the field of international law to the doctor of law doctorate and was in the same year Professeur habilité à diriger of recherches at the Université Panthéon-Assas in Paris .

Since 1990 she has also worked as a consultant for numerous international organizations and for the Swiss government. From 1992 to 1995, Boisson de Chazournes held a position as private lecturer at the University of Geneva and at the University Institute for International Studies and Development. Then she moved to the World Bank as a consultant , where she dealt with issues of international and environmental law . In 1999, she finally got a call to the University of Geneva professor of international law and the law of international organizations. In addition to her research activities in this area, she was visiting professor at the Paul Cézanne Aix-Marseille III University and the Hague Academy for International Law . Boisson de Chazournes is the co-editor of numerous professional journals, including the American Journal of International Law , and is on the scientific advisory board of the European Journal of International Law .

Memberships and honors

Laurence Boisson de Chazournes has been a member of the Permanent Court of Arbitration since 2007 . She is a member of both the American Society for International Law and the International Law Association . In addition, she is a member of the European Society for International Law , of which she has been President since 2012.

In 2008 Boisson de Chazournes was awarded the Elisabeth Haub Prize for Environmental Law .
