Laurent Beauvais

Laurent Beauvais (born June 24, 1952 in Nogent-le-Rotrou , Département Eure-et-Loir ) is a French politician . He is a member of the Socialist Party and was President of the Regional Council of the Lower Normandy Region until the region was dissolved at the end of 2015 .

Life

After studying economics and administration at Caen University , Sciences Po Paris and Paris-Dauphine University , he joined the Science Administration in Paris in 1978. He later worked at the Center national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS) and in 1988 became Chief of Staff of the Socialist Research Minister Hubert Curien . From 1993 to 1997 he worked again at CNRS and was then deputy director of GANIL , a particle accelerator in Caen, until 2008 .

His political activity began at the age of 21 when he joined the Socialist Party . In 1977 he was in the council of Mortrée chosen which he belonged to the 1989th In the same year he became deputy mayor of Argentan . First elected to the Lower Normandy Regional Council in 1998, he became Vice President of the Regional Council in 2004. On April 3, 2008, he succeeded in the office of regional council president, as his predecessor Philippe Duron as the new mayor of Caen could not continue this due to the accumulation of offices . When the region was dissolved, he stepped down from this position on December 31, 2015.

Beauvais was also President of the Organizing Committee of the 2014 World Equestrian Games and was also involved in its opening.
